Firebird is an open source database management system based on Borlands Interbase 6, as Borland decided to set their source code open source in 2000. Interbase was originally developed by a firm of the same name, but later on overtaken by Borland. Since commercial success did not occur, Borland decided to open the source code. Meanwhile, Interbase and Firebird are two different development basis, as the commercial and open source variants are seperated.
AlligatorSQL supports Interbase and Firebird database management systems since version 1.0. All common features including the SQL browser for executing queries, with its direct edit and auto filter functions, are available. All Interbase / Firebird objects are supported and the integrated project management feature allows reordering and grouping into separate units.
